The Biomimic Farming Institute applies principles of biomimicry to agriculture and offers a non-dogmatic approach to regenerative farming. In doing so, we aim to accelerate climate adaptation, protect biodiversity — and grow food that’s rich in nutrients while helping to restore Nature.

The Institute uses the innovative farming project Quintosapore, founded by Alessandro and Nicola Giuggioli in Umbria in 2020, as a testing laboratory. The farm has been applying the principles of biomimicry to support nature with a unique mix of organic, regenerative, biodynamic, agroforestry, effective microorganisms, biochar and quantum physics techniques.

Through the research conducted in the last five years at Quintosapore, the Biomimic Farming Institute has been testing a unique blend of:

The Institute is helping to demonstrate that a non-dogmatic approach to farming solutions is more scalable, financially viable, adaptable to different sizes of farms and inclusive. We focus on data driven results, to measure indices such as soil organic carbon, water-holding capacity, nutrients and biodiversity, in order to create a codified playbook and standardized seed/EM/biochar protocols with a proven governance model.

The Biomimic Farming Institute work endeavours to listen. We strive to evolve and promote a dynamic, resilient and kind farming methodology. Nature’s ”tool box”. By attempting to 'mimic' Nature, the Institute encourages an agile, highly adaptable and compassionate approach to growing soil, agriculture and community. We have knowledge partners like Slow Food Italia and Navdanya International to help exchange regenerative farming techniques, while avoiding cumbersome, standardized labels and guidelines.

ADVOCACY

There is an increasing need to bring the real food and farming movement together — and to build meaningful collaborations between farmers and researchers, in order to share knowledge and join up different initiatives in the regenerative farming space.

The Quintosapore farm’s testing laboratory has helped to reveal the lack of harmony between Nature and the overly bureaucratic “sustainable” labels which often get attached to farming — such as ‘organic’. Nature is a highly dynamic and extremely intricate system, whose rules and solutions are constantly shifting and evolving. Nature rarely complies with regulations. Nature thrives best not when you try to enforce rules to it — but when you listen and learn.

The Biomimic Farming Institute seeks to encourage local, national [italy] and regional [EU] policymakers to incentivise biomimic farming over factory farming practices. This requires shifting economic rewards away from chemical-heavy monocultures and fossil fuel-based fertilisers and towards regenerative, biodynamic, permaculture and synthropic practices including agroforestry, biochar and the use of effective microorganisms [EM].

COMMUNITY

The Biomimic Farming Institute is leading an array of local initiatives to help foster community — and reconnect locals to the land — including our annual HUMUS gathering convenes farmers, philosophers, artists and investors from around the world to share lessons and explore connections between soil, humanity and soul.

The Biomimic Farming Institute supports this work by studying how to replicate the diversity found in natural ecosystems to create resilience and balanced farm environments to adapt to climate change. This approach eliminates the reliance on chemicals, promotes organic and regenerative farming techniques, and aims to increase yields while preserving the health of the land.
